Services

Your First Visit

During your visit we will thoroughly review your medical history, take your blood pressure, perform an oral cancer-screening exam with the very latest VELSCOPE, www.velscope.com , check your gums for periodontal disease, check your teeth for cavities, take the necessary radiographs and finally and most importantly, discuss your concerns or goals for your dental health. After this visit, we will most often schedule a consultation appointment. This is the best way to be sure that each patient and/or parent is involved in the decisions about dental care. Time is allowed between exam and consultation appointments to gather and evaluate information regarding your treatment, such as the number and length of appointments, priority of treatment, insurance and financial arrangements, and possible consultations with any specialists pertinent to your care. This way, we will have collected and organized the information we need so that we can talk about your care and help you make an informed decisions. It is our goal that together we can achieve optimal dental health for you and your family.

Hygiene

The single most important factor in remaining disease free for life is the removal of plaque on a regular basis. The frequency of your visits is based upon your individual needs and oral health. During your visit we will update your medical history, record your blood pressure, perform an oral cancer screening exam, check your teeth for cavities, review your oral hygiene and monitor your periodontal (gum) condition. Fluoride treatments are provided for children under the age of fourteen and for adults when appropriate. One the most common findings is that patients have never been giving proper brushing and flossing instruction, we find that when patients understand the principles of brushing there overall dental health improves.

Sealants

Highly effective in preventing decay on the biting surfaces of chewing teeth, sealants are a simple procedure in which tooth colored acrylic coating is bonded onto the surface of the tooth. When placed properly, they effectively seal the deep grooves where decay is most likely to start. Sealants are usually applied to the chewing surfaces of adult teeth in children.

Orthodontics

Dr. Zelaya is a INVISALIGN Certified Provider.

For adults and children who have crowded or crooked teeth, spaces between their teeth or misaligned teeth and jaws, orthodontic therapy can help reduce the risk of tooth decay gum disease, and trauma due to protruding teeth. Orthodontic treatment can range from full braces to removable appliances, which correct minor tooth misalignments. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children have an evaluation by 7 years of age. More than 25% of all orthodontic patients are adults.

INVISALIGN is the ininvisible way to straighten teeth using a series of custom-made, nearly undetectable Aligners.  And it's been proven effective in both clinical research and in practices nationwide.  So whether your teeth are crowded, too far apart or have shifted since wearing metal braces, you'll have a new reason to smile!

Crowns

A cap, jacket or crown will restore a broken, heavily filled or cracked tooth to its original size and shape. This may also be recommended after root canal therapy has been completed. Most teeth that require root canal therapy usually have had extensive decay or a large filling, therefore once the filling or decay is removed, theres not much left to restore making it necessary to crown the tooth. Crowns available today can be made from a broad range of materials, these materials range from yellow gold; porcelain baked unto a metal substructure; porcelain jackets to composite reinforced crowns, each unique for specific uses.

Root Canal Therapy

The job of the nerve and blood supply of a tooth is to help the development of the root during our youth, once the tooth has fully erupted into the mouth, the nerve serves no other purpose. When the nerve tissue becomes diseased, either by trauma such as blow, decay that has invaded the nerve or an extensive restoration, the cells begin to die causing an infection, which will cause swelling and subsequent pain. Root canal therapy is the removal of the diseased nerve tissue within the root canal space eliminating the infection and bacteria that have formed, its not the removal of the root. Root canal therapy is the most biological way to restore ones teeth.

Periodontal Therapy (Gum Treatment)

According to The American Association of Periodontist, 75% of adults have some level of gum disease. While seldom painful and frequently free of any obvious signs and symptoms, periodontal disease can progress, undetected, to the point where supporting bone is destroyed. Periodontal disease is attributed as the main reason for tooth loss in adults over the age of 35. In recent years periodontal disease has been linked to heart disease and diabetes, therefore there might be more at stake than just your teeth. While periodontal disease is caused by plaque, a number of other factors including poorly fitting bridges, badly aligned teeth and defective fillings contribute to the development of this condition.

Tooth Decay and Repair

Utilizing the latest state of the art KaVoDIAGNOdent which uses a laser-induced fluorescence light source to detect decay that is all too often undetectable by any other method along with radiographs, an intra-oral camera and the use of a special dye, which identifies the bacteria that cause decay, we have the opportunity to identify potential problems occurring in your mouth. Often problem teeth will not cause discomfort until the nerve has been affected, when this occurs, its too late for routine dentistry to address the concern. This is why routine dental examinations are necessary to identify these potential problems. In our office we provide our patients with latest state of the art tooth colored fillings. We believe that these state of the art bonded fillings are far superior to the traditional 100 year-old mercury-amalgam fillings.
