INTRODUCING TO OUR OFFICE THE DEXIS CARIVU, A NEW METHOD IN DETECTING DECAY. DEXIS CariVu —is a brilliant new approach to caries detection,

Dexis is the only company to provide both the digital sensor for xrays and the DEXshield, with the added benefit of radiation reduction by as much as 30%. We've been using the sensor for many years and have been using the DEXshield since it's introduction earlier this year. For more information go to

This CAD/CAM technology allows the dentist to design a ceramic tooth restoration chair side, using an optical impression of the damaged tooth. The veneer or crown is manufactured in the office while you wait. This eliminates the need for impressions and the patient to return for a second visit. The milled restoration is extremely precise, very durable, and made with a tooth-colored material which is anti-abrasive, and plaque resistant. What’s more, the ceramic matches your own tooth color!

What does CEREC mean to you?

CEREC has many practical advantages over laboratoyr fabricated conventional crowns:

1.  No plastic impression taking
2.  No second visit, weeks later
3.  No temporary restoration
4.  Tooth tissue is preserved
5.  Biocompatible, metal-free restoration
6.  Esthetic treatment result with long-term stability

CEREC has many practical advantages over conventional fillings:

1.  Porcelain inlays and onlays help hold the tooth together to help prevent cracking of the tooth
2.  The CEREC porcelain material wears against natural teeth better than metals or resins
3.  The CEREC material is more dimensionally stable than metal or resin fillings
4.  The restorations made from porcelain have superior esthetics when compared to amalgam fillings
5.  The strength of the tooth restored with a bonded porcelain material is many times stronger than any other filling

The cost of a single CEREC restoration is less than a laboratory processed crown.  If you have been told that you need a crown or if you have metal (amalgam) fillings that are old and needing replacement, there is no finer material, or technique, to restore your teeth back to function and appearance.

We were one of the first offices in our area to have used the VELscope in our practice when it was first introduced, we are now updating to a much better and improved verison the VELscope Vx.

The majority of cases are found as late-stage cancers, accounting for the high death rate of about 45% at five years from diagnosis, and high treatment related morbidity in survivors.

Found early, while still Localized (confined to the primary site), oral cancer's five-year survival rate is strong: about 83%. Only 33% of all oral cancer discoveries fall into this category. Found while Regional (after progressed to regional lymph nodes), the five-year survival rate drops significantly, to about 55%. Approximately 46% of all oral cancer discoveries are Regional. Found late, oral cancer's five-year survival rate is poor: approximately 32%. This accounts for approximately 14% of all oral cancer findings. Clearly, finding oral cancer in its early stages is key to survival. Routine VELscope Vx examinations can improve the morbidity and mortality of oral-cancer, because the VELscope Vx system assists in early detection, potentially saving lives through less invasive, more effective treatment.

HPV — Changing the Demographics of Oral Cancer
An increasing body of evidence points to a strong link between particular strains of the human papilloma virus (HPV, most notably strain 16) and a certain type of oral cancer that occurs in the oropharynx. HPV 16 is the same strain associated with almost all cervical cancer. Many experts now recommend that all adult patients over the age of 18 receive a thorough intra- and extra-oral head and neck exam annually.

VELscope is the most powerful FDA approved oral screening tool for assisting in the discovery and detection of oral cancers and mucosal abnormalities in patients.

The MIRRORSCOPE is the latest in patient interaction and delivery of care.  The MirrorScope enables the provider in seeing the treatment area 10x's the size while allowing the patient to view the actual treatment in real time.

We currently use our Microscope to perform most of the "Micro Dentistry".  The Microscope enables us to detect the smallest cracks and lessions.  This technology affords both the patient and doctor the ability not to miss any underlying problems.  Did you ever ask yourself "How did a cavity get under the filling"?  The reason is theat we didn't see the exsisiting decay or test the tooth for the remaining bacteria, the cause of cavities.  This tecnology enables us to see all areas of the tooth clearly therfore providing the best treatment available in the world of today's dentistry.

The KaVo DIAGNOdent

DIAGNOdent PenDetecting the invisible

If you cannot detect the disease, how can you treat it? We often experience anxiety when attempting to diagnose the phenomenon known as hidden caries. A suspicious-looking tooth presents a treatment dilemma for us. Should the tooth be opened up? What if no caries is found? Should the tooth just be watched, or does that give caries more time to destroy the tooth's surface?

A changing caries model: due to floridation, caries has gone "underground". While helping to improve the oral health of many Americans, fluoridation has resulted in harder tooth enamel. Incipient caries lesions that once began on the tooth's surface have now migrated below the surface.

Proven clinical results:
Treatment decisions require a higher degree of certainty. The DIAGNOdent laser caries detection aid removes the doubt from treatment decisions regarding hidden caries ore questionable stained grooves. The device's ability to see into occlusal pits and fissures enables us to treat sub-surface caries lesions with confidence.
